Friends beliefs led to the founding of Newtown Friends Boarding Home in 1897, from which the present Friends Home and Village have evolved. Quakers continue to guide the management and provision of service to the elderly today in an atmosphere of quiet respect and consideration. The Board is comprised exclusively of Friends from Bucks Quarterly Meeting.

The following are distinguishing features of Quaker beliefs:

  • A focus on health and wellness in the belief that all people have strengths and capacities that can be supported and nurtured as they age.
  • Respect for individual differences and a sincere effort to listen to residents' desires and to respond with care and flexibility.
  • Involvement of residents in decisions about their own lives in order to support the highest possible quality of life.
  • Implementation of social environments that draw on the skills and unique experiences that residents bring to community life.
  • A belief that the later years are full of potential for love, growth, friendship and contributions to others.
  • Prudence and integrity in the management of the non-profit organization.
